Dovid and Golyas
The shepherd Dovid faces the giant Golyas with five smooth stones and a sling: the battle is Hashem's.
Lyrics
In the valley of Elah, two armies faced the field, Golyas the Plishti, with his spear and with his shield. Forty days he shouted, every morning, every night, "Send me out a soldier! Who will come and fight?" Young Dovid, son of Yishai, brought food for his brothers there, He heard the giant mocking, and he couldn't bear. King Shaul gave him armor, but Dovid put it down, "I'm not used to this," he said, "Hashem will hold my ground." Five smooth stones from the brook, a sling in his hand, A shepherd boy with emunah, ready to stand. "You come with a sword and a spear, that's true, But I come in the Name of Hashem against you!" He ran toward the giant and he swung his sling around, One stone struck his forehead, Golyas fell to the ground. Not with sword and spear does Hashem save His own, The battle is Hashem's, and Dovid wasn't alone. Five smooth stones from the brook, a sling in his hand, A shepherd boy with emunah, ready to stand. "You come with a sword and a spear, that's true, But I come in the Name of Hashem against you!" The battle is Hashem's, the battle is Hashem's, And with Him by my side, I'm never alone.
