Eight Little Lights

The Chanukah story: the few against the many, one pure jar of oil, and eight nights of light in the window.

Lyrics

Long ago the Yevanim said, "Leave your Torah, leave your ways," But Yehudah and the Chashmona'im stood strong in those days. The few against the many, the weak against the strong, With Hashem they won the battle, and they sang a thankful song. They came into the Beis HaMikdash to light the Menorah bright, They found one jar of pure oil with the Kohen Gadol's seal in sight. Enough to burn for just one day, but the oil burned on and on, For eight whole days the Menorah shone, from evening until dawn. Eight little lights, one more every night, Nes gadol hayah sham, a great miracle burning bright. In the window let it shine for the whole street to see, Hashem did wonders then, and He's with you and me. We make the brochos, light the flames, and sing Ma'oz Tzur, The dreidel spins, the latkes sizzle, every heart is pure. Grandpa tells the story, and we listen once again, How Hashem gave us the victory, back then and now, amen. Eight little lights, one more every night, Nes gadol hayah sham, a great miracle burning bright. In the window let it shine for the whole street to see, Hashem did wonders then, and He's with you and me. A little bit of light can push away a lot of dark, Every mitzvah that you do is another little spark. Eight little lights, one more every night, Nes gadol hayah sham, a great miracle burning bright. In the window let it shine for the whole street to see, Hashem did wonders then, and He's with you and me.
